"Defend our USS" is a national campaign to defend the pension rights of current and future members of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS).

    The branch emails members this video, to explain why UCU is planning industrial action over the proposed changes.



  • 26 January 2011
    Members hear, at a branch meeting, that USS trustees will only review three of the proposed changes (pdf) as a result of their consultation process.

  • 20 December 2010
    The branch writes a letter (pdf) to IOE management reporting the result of the UCU referendum.

  • 13 December 2010
    The branch draft's a response (pdf) to the proposed changes.

  • 25 October 2010
    The branch emails members this video, to explain why IOE management must put the proposed changes to a vote.



  • 18 October 2010
    The branch asks IOE management, at a meeting, to undertake an equality impact assessment on the proposed changes and to answer 11 questions (pdf).

  • 11 October 2010
    The branch emails members urging them to: (a) vote in the nationwide UCU referendum and (b) invite colleagues on Grade 6 or above to vote. 

  • 7 October 2010
    The branch writes a letter (pdf) to IOE management, calling on them to put the proposed changes to a vote. We get a negative reply, and so launch a poster (pdf) campaign.

  • 29 September 2010
    The branch holds an open meeting, for all current and potential members of USS. A resolution is passed calling on IOE management to put the proposed changes to a vote.

  • 10 September 2010
    The branch produces guidance (pdf) on proposed changes to the USS pension scheme.
